On the city outskirts is Fortress Louisbourg National Park, presenting Canada’s largest historical reconstruction. Here visitors can enjoy a town perfectly restored to its 1740 appearance. A walk on the half-mile Boardwalk promenade in the heart of downtown provides a panoramic view of the harbor. Apart from Louisbourg Fortress, the town also features a railway museum at the Sydney and Louisbourg Historical Society and the Atlantic Statiquarium, a marine museum devoted largely to underwater treasure. | ||

Public Areas

Special dietary requests, such as vegetarian, diabetic or gluten-free meals, are easily accommodated with advance notice. Kosher meals and a Health Conscious Dining option are also available. To arrange special meals, please contact the Ship Services Department at 1-800-541-1576 at least 90 days prior to departure.
Food Allergies
For guests with food intolerances or allergies that are NOT life-threatening, please contact the Ship Services Department at (800)541-1576.
For guests with life-threatening food allergies, guests are asked to provide detailed information to the Access & Compliance Department by completing a Special Requirements Information (SRI) Form. Guests should indicate on this form which foods may potentially cause a severe reaction. Guests with a variety of severe food allergies sail with Holland America Line regularly. The galley staff on board is accustomed to and experienced in dealing with these types of needs. The galley itself has many different areas of food preparation, which can help reduce the possibility of cross-contamination. It is important to note, however, that meals are prepared in mass quantities on board, thus there is always the possibility of some cross-contamination. As such, Holland America Line cannot guarantee that a guest will not come in contact with those items. Although the Access & Compliance Department will provide the ship with an advance notice of all food allergies detailed on an SRI submitted to them, it is recommended that guests also contact the Dining Room Manager upon boarding to review the details of these special dietary needs.
If passengers become ill or injured during the voyage and the diagnostic and/or care needs exceed the capabilities of the infirmary, passengers will be transferred to medical facilities ashore.
Please note: Medicare and many health insurance plans DO NOT cover the cost of medical care at sea, in foreign countries, or for air evacuation. Guests are encouraged to obtain travel medical insurance prior to travel in order to be reimbursed for services rendered.
Women cannot have begun their 24th week of pregnancy at any time before or during the cruise.
If you are pregnant, a physician’s letter must be provided stating the expected due date, medical fitness to travel, and the pregnancy is not high risk. Please also include your name, booking number, ship and sailing date.
Please fax letters to Holland America's Access & Compliance Department at 800-577-1731. Or they can be mailed to:
Holland America Line
Attention: Access & Compliance Department, 2nd floor
300 Elliott Avenue West Seattle, WA 98119
Guests are urged to have their letter mailed or faxed in as soon as possible after making a reservation.
For the comfort of all guests, smoking is prohibited in all staterooms, showrooms, and most other indoor areas. While smoking is not permitted in staterooms, guests are allowed to smoke on stateroom verandahs. Smoking is also permitted on certain other designated, outside decks. The designated smoking areas for all ships are as follows unless otherwise noted.
- Stateroom verandahs
- Casino (Active players only)
- Seaview Bar
- Outside Decks
- Sports Deck
Cigar and pipe smoking is NOT allowed anywhere inside the ship; it is only permitted on the outside decks where smoking is allowed and on stateroom verandahs.
Electronic cigarettes are permitted in staterooms but not in other public areas of the ship other than on outside decks designated as smoking areas.
Any guest caught smoking inside their stateroom will be considered in violation of Holland America's smoking policy, and will be charged a US$250 cleaning fee per day of violation.
Holland America Line is committed to providing safe, easy, and accessible accommodations for all persons with disabilities, to the extent that is feasible. However, some needs require adequate time to prepare for a guest's arrival. It is recommended that guests make every effort to contact the Access & Compliance Department and submit a Special Requirements Information (SRI) Form well in advance of the departure of their cruise and/or cruisetour. It is recommended that an SRI form be submitted immediately upon booking, or a minimum of 45 days prior to departure.
Guests who are unable to care for their basic needs (e.g. dressing, eating, and attending safety drills) MUST have a capable traveling companion. The medical staff on board is not available for daily care unless an individual is hospitalized in the ship's Medical Center. In limited situations (either on board or ashore), Holland America may find it necessary to ask the individual to make alternative travel arrangements, such as if an individual with a disability is unable to satisfy certain specified safety and other criteria, even when provided with appropriate auxiliary aids and services.
Wheelchair-Accessible Staterooms
Holland America Line vessels have specially designed staterooms for guests who use wheelchairs. If you have not booked a wheelchair accessible staterooms, but instead will be using a standard stateroom, it is important to know about some limitations that adversely impact maneuverability, especially ingress and egress into bathrooms. For example, bathroom dimensions, doorsills, and the height of bathtubs in standard staterooms are often difficult to negotiate for guests who have limited mobility. Additionally, standard stateroom doors and hallways may be too narrow for a wheelchair or scooter* to maneuver into and out of the stateroom.
*Note: For safety reasons, these mobility devices must be stored and charged in the guests' staterooms.
Wheelchair Accessible Staterooms offer features such as wider entry doors, roll-in showers with grab bars and benches/seats, and hand-held shower nozzles, as well as lowered closet and towel rods.
- Wheelchair accessible stateroom entry doors measure 32 inches wide.
- Wheelchair accessible bathroom doors measure 32 inches wide.
Accessible stateroom locations are noted on the Deck Plans for each ship.
Ship Transfer Options
For individuals with limited mobility, the use of a wheelchair will be the primary mobility assistance aid for getting on and off the ship. Certain ship transfer operations (i.e. during tendering and at the gangways) may not be fully accessible to wheelchairs or scooters. When a ship is unable to dock, guests are taken ashore on smaller boats called tenders. Some guests with limited mobility may find it difficult to embark or disembark the ship at certain times while tendering or while docked due to steep gangways and steps, particularly during low or high tide. Also, please note that scooters and wheelchairs which are more than 100 lbs. (without the battery) are not allowed to be transferred from the ship to tender and/or from tender to shore.
Most Holland America Line vessels have been retrofitted with a tender-lift system that enables guests to roll directly on and off tenders while remaining in their wheelchairs. However, please be advised that adverse weather conditions such as wind, swells, or extreme tide levels may prohibit the use of the ship's tender lift equipment. Additionally, some port facilities may not be able to accommodate the lift equipment. If you require the use of this equipment, please speak with the Guest Relations Manager upon embarkation for further details or to coordinate specific arrangements.
Situations may occur in which guests with limited mobility may not be able to go ashore at the time they desire or are unable to go ashore at all in certain ports. For the safety of all concerned, the Captain shall make the final determination regarding whether or not it is advisable to provide assistance to guests with mobility impairments, or to carry their mobility assistance device (wheelchair, scooter, walker, etc.), taking into account all appropriate matters including, but not limited to, weather conditions, ship's location, weight of the guest or their mobility device, etc.
Personal Mobility Equipment
For the safety of all guests and crew, and to enhance accessibility, Holland America Line strongly recommends that all personal electric mobility equipment meet the following criteria:
- Width: 23" maximum (in order to be accommodated in a standard stateroom), unless collapsible to a width of 23" or less
- Weight: 100 lbs. maximum (without battery)
- Batteries: Must be gel or dry cell or AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) only
Holland America Line recognizes that for some people, a larger scooter may be essential. If you believe you need a larger scooter, please contact the Access & Compliance Department to discuss your requirements.
For the safety of all guests and crew, scooters and other mobility equipment need to be securely stored and charged in the guest's stateroom, not in hallways or elevator lobbies. Scooters left in hallways and elevator lobbies could restrict people needing to travel through these areas in an emergency, particularly other guests using mobility aids, since they would have no way of getting by a scooter left in a hallway.
Holland America Line is no longer able to provide complimentary wheelchair assistance for any purpose other than embarkation, disembarkation, and emergency situations. Holland America Line wheelchairs are not available for shore excursions or for use on board. If you will require regular use of a wheelchair, it is recommended that you bring your own wheelchair with you. You may also make advance rental arrangements prior to your sailing and have a wheelchair delivered directly to the ship for use on board and in ports of call.
Special Needs at Sea and CareVacations/CruiseShipAssist are the vendors that Holland America Line has approved for delivery of mobility devices. Please contact these vendors directly for pricing and availability.

Please be advised that all pre-arranged mobility equipment rentals must be made by the guest and the third party provider. Consequently, you assume the entire risk of utilizing these third party services subject only to whatever terms or arrangements are made by you or on your behalf with the service provider. Refund issues must be dealt with solely between you and the service provider. We recommend contacting one of these companies to confirm your arrangements as soon as possible in order to ensure the availability of your specific requests.
Shoreside Wheelchair Assistance
Because facilities in ports around the world vary significantly, wheelchair accommodations may not be available for some land tours and/or shore excursions. Furthermore, many transportation vehicles around the world do not have wheelchair lifts. Thus, it may be necessary for Holland America Line to make alternate transportation arrangements such as a sedan vehicle. This requires that a guest who uses a wheelchair be able to transfer from his/her wheelchair to the front or back seat of a sedan. Due to the limited number of lift-equipped vehicles in foreign locations, guests may incur additional costs for transportation related to airport transfers, shore excursions, and tour/hotel packages. Please note, lift equipped transportation within the United States may be arranged without additional costs. For information on alternative transportation arrangements and associated costs please contact the Access & Compliance Department . Please advise Holland America Line as far in advance as possible of any special needs for transfers. This will help to ensure availability of the appropriate vehicle(s) and for Holland America Line to provide an estimate of additional associated costs.
Guests should be aware that certain third party shore excursion facilities may not be fully accessible to guests with disabilities. Although Holland America Line endeavors to make sure these companies comply with legal requirements, they cannot guarantee that all are able to provide facilities that are accessible to individuals with disabilities. For detailed information on accessibility of shore excursions, it is strongly recommend that guests contact the Shore Excursions Department prior to embarkation at 1-888-425-9376 (or locally at 206-626-7320) or visit the Shore Excursions Office on board.
Wheelchair assistance that is requested for airports or train stations must be done directly through the airline or rail station. Holland America Line is not able to arrange for wheelchair assistance at airports or train stations.
Options For Deaf or Hard of Hearing Guests
To help maximize the cruise experience for guests who are deaf or hard of hearing, Holland America Line has made the following items available:
- Stateroom kits that include a visual and tactile alert for someone knocking at the door, the phone ringing, or an alarm.
- Stateroom televisions capable of showing closed captioning (some satellite feeds do not transmit with captioning, so this feature is available only when the signal the ship receives has captioning).
- Telephones with amplified sound for staterooms.
- Assistive Listening Systems with portable receivers in the show lounges to assist guests who are hard of hearing to hear the shows.
- Written safety information and a copy of the lifeboat drill safety speech.
Options For Guests Who Are Blind Or Have Low Vision
To help maximize the cruise experience for guests who are blind or have low vision, Holland America Line has made the following items available:

- With 45 days notice, large print or Braille menus describing the inspired cuisine offered across a myriad of venues, from the elegant Dining Room to the casual Lido Restaurant.
- A familiarization tour of the vessel upon arrival.
Service Animals
Holland America Line only permits service animals on board, defined as those animals that are individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability. Guests are not permitted to bring pets, therapy/companion animals, and other animals that do not meet the definition of service animals. If you have any questions about whether the animal you wish to bring on board is, in fact, a service animal, you may contact the Access & Compliance Department.
Your itinerary may include ports of call that have very specific and strict requirements that need to be met prior to your service animal being allowed off of the ship. Please be sure you understand the requirements for a service animal to disembark in each port of call. The best places to obtain specific information on required documentation and immunizations for your service animal are the U.S. Department of Agriculture's website, local customs offices in the specific ports, and from your service animal's veterinarian. All documentation and immunization requirements are established by government authorities and not by Holland America Line. Should you need assistance in locating this information, please contact the Access & Compliance Department.
To board the ship, your service animal must have current vaccinations. Records confirming the vaccination status should be provided to the Access & Compliance Department prior to your departure. It is also recommended that you carry the immunization records with you in case they are required at any port of call. If you do not have the proper documentation and proof of vaccinations for your service animal required at a port of call, or if there are local quarantine requirements, your service animal will be denied the right to leave the ship. If your service animal is denied the right to leave the ship in a specific port of call, the staff and crew will work with you to determine what actions may be possible to allow you to visit the port without your service animal. Please note that in your absence, you will need to provide for the care and supervision of your service animal. Except in those circumstances where your service animal has been denied disembarkation, you may not leave your service animal unattended on the vessel or in your stateroom at any time.
Oxygen Deliveries On Board
Guests requiring continuous or intermittent oxygen for chronic conditions must make their own arrangements prior to travel. Holland America Line ships are not equipped to provide guests with these services other than on an emergency basis in the Ship's Medical Center. For security and safety reasons, Holland America has selected CareVacations/CruiseShipAssist and Special Needs at Sea as the only outside vendors permitted to deliver oxygen supplies to Holland America ships.

Each Holland America ship has an onboard Medical Center staffed by licensed physicians and critical care nurses. While not a full-service hospital, the Medical Center is well equipped to handle most emergencies and routine medical procedures.
A customary fee will be charged for services and medications dispensed (with the exception of meclizine for seasickness, Tylenol®, and aspirin, which may also be obtained at the Front Office). If you become ill or injured during the voyage and your diagnostic and/or care needs exceed the capabilities of the medical center, you will be transferred to medical facilities ashore. Please note that Medicare and many health insurance plans do NOT cover the cost of medical care at sea, in foreign countries, or for air evacuation. Guests are encouraged to obtain travel medical insurance prior to travel in order to be reimbursed for services rendered.
If you have a chronic medical condition, please bring a recent report from your physician. The medical staff on board is not available for daily care, unless you are hospitalized in the Medical Center. You must be able to care for yourself, including dressing, eating and attending the ship's safety drills. If you are unable to function independently in these areas, you must bring a caregiver with you.
Keep medication close at hand in your purse or carry-on bag. Be sure to bring enough prescription medicine to last throughout your cruise, as it may not be available on board or in some of the countries visited.
Holland America Line has a youth program and the ship is staffed with a professional Club HAL Director dedicated to making sure children have a great time. Some of the fun-filled activities include bingo for prizes, arts & crafts, special parties, and much more. Each participant also receives a Club HAL t-shirt. An activity schedule for each age group will be delivered to your stateroom each evening.
Activities are offered for kids (ages 3-7), 'tweens (8-12), and teens (13-17). The program has an open door policy, which means participants may come and go as they please. All activities are supervised. However, the Club HAL Director is not responsible for any child if he/she chooses to leave the activity.

Food, excellent service, beautiful ship and scenery
Pros: Food, excellent service, beautiful ship and scenery
Cons: Excursions were long bus.rides.
Review: Extra night in Quebec City was the best part of the trip. The hotel was exceptional. Acadia National park tour was too long, would have enjoyed more time in Bar Harbor. Bay of Fundy trip was also much too long and food was less than adequate, disappointing at best.
Food, customer service
Pros: Food, customer service
Cons: Not enough activities on the "at sea" day.
Review: We like the mid-size ship. Overall, Holland America is our preferred cruise choice.
Great table steward. Dining room food was excellent. Staff amazingly friendly, helpful and happy
Pros: Great table steward. Dining room food was excellent. Staff amazingly friendly, helpful and happy
Cons: Lido good same every day will few changes. entertainment lacked variety.
Review: Cantara and the dance troop were excellent entertainment. Other than that, if you did not visit a bar in the evening, there was no entertainment. The afternoon movies were a great distraction however, they were shown in a room that had too many obstructions. There weren’t very many seats that were on obstructed. So we stopped going to the movies. the lectures were excellent a lot of great information and a very good speaker.
Everything about the ship was excellent
Pros: Everything about the ship was excellent
Cons: None
Review: The Activities Director, Kimberly was amazing in her presentations! All of our ports and shore excursions were wonderful. Don’t ever miss the Tracy Arm Inlet excursion! Was our highlight as well as having sunshine everyday! Glacier Bay was special as we experienced Sawyer Glacier which few ever get to see. Even first time for our captain. They extend a few permits after the first of September.
All the workers were top notch.
Pros: All the workers were top notch.

Review: Cabin with veranda deck view made for a wonderful 1st cruise experience
The cruise portion was well executed, all staff extremely friendly and accommodating
Pros: The cruise portion was well executed, all staff extremely friendly and accommodating
Cons: Lodging at Dawson City was not in hotel with dining. Requied a 6 block walk to hotel with dining to be able to use meal vouchers. Klondike Spirit non operational due to high water
Review: Felt that our land tour guide/coordinator could have made more of an effort to determine the needs and expectations of the various members of our group. .The Klondike Spirit cruise was touted as part of the tour but hadn't been launched for the season due to high water. While this is beyond anyone's control it should have been explained along with how to navigate Dawson City and arrange walking tours and other activities. Similar experience with Gerties and the touted Can-Can show. Gerties was closed the Monday and Tuesday we were there. We did arrange a guided tour through the city's information center that was very good. I would have thought that the Denali Wildlife excursion would have included the Park Visitor Center. A transportation shuttle was available but was not well explained. Our driver from Dawson City to Skagway "Jimmy" was great, very knowledgeable and informative.
Decent vegan food, great embarkation and disembarkation, quiet atmosphere, older crowd of people
Pros: Decent vegan food, great embarkation and disembarkation, quiet atmosphere, older crowd of people
Cons: Poor library, some Navigator app functions do not work
Review: Have never met a more friendly crew as those on this ship, always smiling even though they work exceptionally hard to make life good for all the passengers. An older crowd seems to enjoy hanging out on the ship. Not for passengers who like a noisy, busy, busy vacation. Would definitely sail with Holland America again.
Wonderful staff...friendly, helpful,hard working
Pros: Wonderful staff...friendly, helpful,hard working
Cons: Not enough activities.
Review: Very clean, easy on and departure. Loved the dance shows, the Lincoln Center performers, and the comedians.

Cons: None
Review: The crew members were very attentive and happy to help you. The captain was often seen walking around, interacting with the guests and crew. One waiter even mentioned that Captain Wourter was the best captain he had worked under. Entertainment was great. Food was great. I think I would do it again! I could hardly believe how difficult it was to get the canal built!! I rally is a wonder of the world!!!
Professional, friendly and helpful staff and crew. Very clean.. Food good not exceptional.

The CREW and the ITINERARY.
Pros: The CREW and the ITINERARY.
Cons: BB King Blues too loud with staterooms nearby/above/below hearing them -
Review:
Fabulous itinerary, excellent shore excursion team, welcoming staff
Pros: Fabulous itinerary, excellent shore excursion team, welcoming staff
Cons: No self-serve laundry, very limited passenger diversity
Review: The ship is lovely, the staff friendly and helpful, and the itinerary magnificent. But the overwhelming majority of passengers were old, affluent, white people. My husband and I fit this demographic and we would consider taking another cruise with Holland America. However, we would pick a more family focused cruise line if our trip included our children and grandchildren.
Excellent service and staff, food, entertainment
Pros: Excellent service and staff, food, entertainment
Cons: Bathroom needs a night light
Review: I recommend this cruise for everyone of all ages.
Staff, ship, ports, overlands

Promenade deck to walk and sit to enjoy the ocean.
Pros: Promenade deck to walk and sit to enjoy the ocean.
Cons: No organized bridge games. Same Oprah book as a year ago. Test kitchen same recipes as a year ago.
Review:
Itinerary was excellent, took some good tours, especially Cartagena old town "less shopping" tour. Also had an excellent experience with a wildlife boat tour in Panama. Our guide (I believe Juan) was so passionate and wanted to share his knowledge so much, that it became a really phenomenal experience. The walking tour in Costa Rica was also very good. I liked the on-board activities like the various trivia (the asst. cruise director did a good job). Also, the BB King group was very, very good and did a great job of getting people up to dance. Only suggestion is to expand their playlist a bit. The more educational talks given by the crew were also interesting. More of those would be good.

Cons: Only real complaint I had was of the "excursion director" (not certain of his real title). His performance on stage was good, but his individual interactions with guests was, at times, not good. I already wrote about specifics on my on ship comment card.
Review: See above!
Pros: No Pros
Cons: Cold in mainstage and test kitchen; local port info presentation could be better
Review:
Great sevice all during the cruise
Pros: Great sevice all during the cruise
Cons: Adventure Tour in Costa Rica was uncomfortable and not worthwhile
Review: Some of the adventure tours were not up to what was described for the adventure but the guides had energy and did their best.

Pros: Wonderful Attentive Staff! Love the Balcony on the Neptune Suite! Good selection of Entertainment during our Cruise. Great options for dining!
Cons: Felt a bit rushed at some of the ports.
Review: Overall, this was a amazing Cruise! So many wonderful moments and memories!
Recent renovation
Pros: Recent renovation
Cons: Doesn't have the midship Asian restaurant that the more recent bigger HAL ships have
Review: Although the ship is about 20 years old it received recently a renovation and the cabins (at least my Verandah storeroom) have recent flat screen TV's with wireless connectivity. Also the crows nest (upper most deck near the bow) has several large touch screen tables that display interactive information about the cruise ports.
Food room limited passengers few children great musical shows on time leaving and in every port. Dry cleaning great. People were caring and friendly
Pros: Food room limited passengers few children great musical shows on time leaving and in every port. Dry cleaning great. People were caring and friendly
Cons: Everything was perfect. Beautiful ship and amenities
Review: Excursions were great. Food excellent. In lido deck and dining room. Off shore meals good. A few more variations of fish and more vegan meals would help But I wouldn't change much December 2017

Food was superb as was the staff and service. Since we went through Immigration in Bal Harbor, getting off in Ft Lauderdale was a breeze.
Pros: Food was superb as was the staff and service. Since we went through Immigration in Bal Harbor, getting off in Ft Lauderdale was a breeze.
Cons: Ship was very cold. Went to dry dock after we arrived so perhaps there was a problem.
Review: Perfect trip when you can get off the ship and be home shortly thereafter. Limited daytime activities as very few sea days... fine with me...

Holland America?? TYVM. Staff was even better than other cruises !!! Awesome service and dining. Loved the dining. Service was exceptional. One show was full audience standing ovation, The Island Magic Steel Band
Pros: Holland America?? TYVM. Staff was even better than other cruises !!! Awesome service and dining. Loved the dining. Service was exceptional. One show was full audience standing ovation, The Island Magic Steel Band
Cons: Unsafe cabin hallway sub-floors needed repair on several decks.
Review: Excellent cabin stewards (Sugi). Chefs and Dining staff (Widy, Daru, Mario) above expectations! The Asst Dining Room Manager was an excellent leader by example, ever present and always smiling. Only disappointment was the sub floor "divots" in the cabin hallways. Our Panama Canal Cruise was a fabulous experience and loved all the excursions! But it was the continued service that I appreciated most. Thank You Very Much Holland America for returning my phone by express mail when I left it in my stateroom as we exited the ship. Now that is exceptional service!!! The show: Island Magic Steel Drum Band got thunderous applause and total audience standing ovations at both appearances. You have got to see their Beethoven and Beyond collection!

Food and service were excellent
Pros: Food and service were excellent
Cons: Could have had more and better night shows
Review: Best staff I have ever encountered... Friendly and efficient. Beds were cozy... Staterooms were ample. If looking for a relaxing cruise, I would highly recommend this one. If you're a party animal, it's not for you.
Good Service
Pros: Good Service
Cons: Entertainment lacking, movie theater too small to accommodate so many who want to go

Pros: Great itinerary, nice pace with sea days and excellent geological and cultural lectures of countries visited

Review: Third trip with Holland. Very satisfied.
Staff was excellent, number of stops provided a lot of variety, ship was always clean, dining options were good
Pros: Staff was excellent, number of stops provided a lot of variety, ship was always clean, dining options were good
Cons: Very poor and expensive wifi, daily hotel service charge over and above what you have already paid, way over priced beverage packages, over priced shore excursions through Holland America with absolutely no assistance when other options are available
Review: We very much enjoyed our twenty-four day cruise stopping at so many places that we have always wanted to see. Our biggest frustration was there was so much to see and so little time to see and do everything that we wanted to see and do. Holland America should consider including wifi as it is becoming a necessity rather than a luxury.
Pros: No Pros
Cons: No Cons
Review: The cruise ship is catered for adults.
Excellent food and service level
Pros: Excellent food and service level
Cons: Old leather chair in room- verandah deck floor and windows dirty
Review: Cabin stewards could not have been more helpful and pleasant. Food in their dining room and restaurants was excellent. However, in the Lido restaurant a station for less exotic and lower sodium food would be welcome. The make your own salad station was great!
Great staff and experience
Pros: Great staff and experience

Review: Ship had a couple of medical emergencies on board which they handled great, including a Coast Guard helicopter medical evac off Cuba on last day
The staff treated us like kings and queens.
Pros: The staff treated us like kings and queens.
Cons: The food was good but not delicious. About what you'd expect when serving so many people at one time.
Review: Overall, we had a fantastic time. The destinations were good and the sea days were fun too. The staff went over and above to make it a trip of a lifetime.
Pros: No Pros
Cons: No Cons
Review: Had a wonderful time. Entertainment and Food was great.

Food, Staff, Room
Pros: Food, Staff, Room
Cons: Entertainment, Activities
Review: Have cruised with Holland America many times over the years. On this ship found the entertainment and activities to be very lacking compared to other cruises.
HAL, especially at the Nepturn Suite level, provides excellent accomodations, service and great food,
Pros: HAL, especially at the Nepturn Suite level, provides excellent accomodations, service and great food,
Cons: None
Review: Best of Bonaire tour was disappointing-not much to see. The salt ponds were the only interesting feature. Panama Canal tour met all expectations; we were very happy with the bus trip to Miraflores-our guide, Jill, was excellent. Veragua-Eco Tour was more physically demanding than advertised. It's a must see when in Costa Rica, but 4 hours on my feet after two back surgeries was tough.
Good ship, excellent staff, plenty of choice in dining
Pros: Good ship, excellent staff, plenty of choice in dining
Cons: Not much choice in cabins
Review: Pleasantly supprised at the quality of the Zuiderdam. Everything about it was comfortable. Plenty of space to relax, lots of varied entertainment, great alternative restaurants and wonderful presentation in all venues. The staff was attentative and most pleasant.
Our Pinnacle Suite was superb, the food and service in the dining room and specialty restaurant excellent, and the service from our concierges and room stewards responsive and unobtrusive.
Pros: Our Pinnacle Suite was superb, the food and service in the dining room and specialty restaurant excellent, and the service from our concierges and room stewards responsive and unobtrusive.
Cons: Having to disembark.
Review: From the time we arrived at the port prior to our embarkation to the time we completed going through Customs, everything was perfect. Holland American thought of everything.
The itinerary was excellent. We enjoyed all the ports. The public rooms and elevators and promenade decks were lovely. There were beautiful large bouquets of fresh flowers here and there which added a lot to the ambiance. The dining room was comfortable and attractive and the service was excellent. Our waiter was a charmer and very attentive. We had two excellent shows: a mime/magician who was incredible and very entertaining, and a local singing and dancing troupe from Kotor, Monte Negro, who performed native dances in a great variety of beautiful costumes. One other show we enjoyed was put on by Philippine staff members, doing native singing and dancing in costume.

Cons: We were disappointed in our stateroom. It was very cramped and shabby. Supposedly a cabin for 3 people, it had 2 1/2 closets, two small 2-drawer chests, and in the evening when the beds were made up, one could not get out to the balcony without stepping on the pullout sofa, which we did not do. There was no room for the extra chair or sofa table, nor for my rollator walker, which I put in the bathtub, until I found out I could call and have it taken away overnight and delivered back in the morning. The door to the balcony was very heavy to open and couldn't be kept open the way sliding doors would have been. We had to make do with a folding chair for the dressing table. Other cons were: the food was not as good as I have had on Celebrity ships and even Norwegian line ships. The breads, hors d'ouevres and desserts were the best food items. It was difficult to orient oneself on the ship. There was very poor signage, indicating forward and aft, port and starboard. The day we left the ship we wanderered all over trying to find which way to get off and were afraid of missing our airport bus.
Review: I feel that on the whole the cruise was a success. We had a good time both on and off the ship, with interesting ports, a pleasant swim at the end of the day and a good dinner, nicely served, with family. We often caught several minutes of classical music in one of the lounges after dinner. My granddaughter enjoyed the Memphis blues night club and some of us tried our luck ( not good) in the casino. We patronized some of the shops on the ship. We also appreciated having a card room. I enjoyed walking around the promenade deck. So many ships nowadays don't have a walk that goes all the way around.
GOOD WEATHER, FOOD AND ENTERTAINMENT
Pros: GOOD WEATHER, FOOD AND ENTERTAINMENT
Cons: NONE
Review: ESPECIALLY ENJOYED THE TRAIN AND BOAT TRIP AND BANANA PLANTATION IN COSTA RICO.
Great itinerary- Panama Canal, Costa Rica, etc. If you have limited mobility HAL goes out of the way to assist both on the ship and with land excursionson. Entertainment was very good - both shows and music on board.
Pros: Great itinerary- Panama Canal, Costa Rica, etc. If you have limited mobility HAL goes out of the way to assist both on the ship and with land excursionson. Entertainment was very good - both shows and music on board.
Cons: Ship is due for refit in April, some of the maintenance ( paint on the outside, upholstery in the Lido) was let go. Definitely an older crowd ( my wife and I are mid 60's.)
Review: The cabin and service on board was excellent. Food could be better including a better menu in the Pinnacle ( great space and service was over the top). Did not like having to buy water to take off ship at with tropical ports. First time on HAL- they do a good job.
Beautiful ship, excellent food, great service
Pros: Beautiful ship, excellent food, great service
Cons: Forward cabin loud and shakey in rough seas
Review: Loved the whole thing. Thank you for arranging it.
A vey helpful and friendly wait staff; a very efficient medical staff; fantastic room stewards; an extremely talented Cruise Director Dave Shae; a very knowledgeable Bridge Instructor
Pros: A vey helpful and friendly wait staff; a very efficient medical staff; fantastic room stewards; an extremely talented Cruise Director Dave Shae; a very knowledgeable Bridge Instructor
Cons: Early seating too early at 5:15 p.m.; loveseat in stateroom needs new upholstery
Review: Over the years we have enjoyed our cruises on Holland America Line's ships, as well as this cruise on the MS Zuiderdam. Our favorite was our cruise with our 15-year-old grandson on the Prinsendam from Rome to Amsterdam in June/July of 2007.
Restful cruise plenty of on ship time
Pros: Restful cruise plenty of on ship time
Cons: We were discouraged from touring ourselves, much pressure to book ship tours
Review: If there was a problem it was with the hard sale of the cruise tours, they used the scare tactic and lied to the onboard passengers saying there was nothing to do in ports other then their tour. I took offense to these tactics and lies.
Friendliness and attitude of the staff and very good food & entertainment
Pros: Friendliness and attitude of the staff and very good food & entertainment
Cons: The ship is looking a little tired.
